Job Description

Principal Accountabilities

Pre-commissioning and commissioning
• Be aware of developments in the field and have general awareness of current affairs.
• Assess BPFs and sample chapters.
• Identify reviewers and prepare material to be sent out and ensure timely delivery of reviews.
• Work with the Commissioning Editor to commission/acquire authors and prepare and
circulate Syndicate Papers.
• Prepare contracts for authors, editors, contributors and series editors.
• Undertake research for expanding author and reviewer base.
• Work closely with the commissioning editor on market research and competitive analysis to
determine areas in which we should have new work.

Work on contracted titles

• Work closely with authors/editors/contributors/pre-press colleagues/others, answering
queries and providing guidance as required for each project.
• Undertake clearance reviews as required.
• Provide content, layout and style suggestions.
• Undertake research on cover illustrations.
• Contribute to marketing and promotional work including writing blurbs and negotiating appropriate material with author and marketing.

General administration

• Maintain overall workflow.
• Keep clear, appropriate and up-to-date list-wide records and provide list-wide information as required.
• Make or requisition appropriate payments, as/if required.
• Ensure that relevant information on systems, including Centaur and SAP, is fully accurate and up to date.
• Work as part of a team.
• Attend external events as required, including relevant conferences and campus meetings, launches and discussions.

• Graduate in Social Sciences with work experience of 5 years OR
• Postgraduate in Social Sciences with work experience of 2 years
• Excellent communication skills
• Aware and empathetic
