Former DBS CEO Piyush Gupta to be chairman of Temasek India

In a strategic move reaffirming its commitment to the Indian market, Temasek Holdings has appointed former DBS Group CEO Piyush Gupta as Chairman of Temasek India, effective December 1, 2025.

Gupta, who helmed DBS Group from 2009 until earlier this year, will assume the position in a non?executive, advisory capacity. In this role, he is expected to work closely with Temasek’s India leadership and lead the firm’s engagement with Indian government bodies, investee companies, and business communities.

During his 16?year tenure as CEO of DBS, Gupta was credited with driving the bank’s digital transformation and regional expansion — achievements that elevated DBS to among the world’s top banks.

In announcing the appointment, Temasek CEO Dilhan Pillay said Gupta brings decades of financial?services experience and an extensive network — assets critical to deepening Temasek’s footprint in India. Pillay added that Gupta’s guidance will help strengthen institutional ties and broaden the firm’s investment reach in the region.

On his part, Gupta expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “Having been engaged with the Temasek ecosystem for many years, I look forward to collaborating with the team to deepen partnerships, pursue new opportunities, and contribute to Temasek’s continued growth in India,” he said.

The appointment comes at a time when Temasek has been intensifying its investments in India — with its India portfolio recently reported to be around US$50?billion, and plans underway to make significant new investments over the coming years. Observers view Gupta’s appointment as a signal of Temasek’s long-term commitment to India’s evolving market.

As India continues to attract global capital, Gupta’s leadership and strategic counsel are likely to play a pivotal role in guiding Temasek’s future moves in the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
